Food is what guests talk about long after the wedding. Planning it well is less about picking the fanciest dishes and more about getting a few decisions right, in the right order.
1. Fix the date, venue and a realistic guest count
Your caterer’s price and team size depend on the number of guests. Start with an honest estimate for each function — haldi and mehendi are usually smaller than the reception.
2. Decide veg, non-veg or both
Many Hyderabad weddings serve both. If you do, ask your caterer how vegetarian and non-vegetarian food will be cooked and served separately, and plan for elders or guests who need no onion–garlic food.
3. Build the menu around a few strong dishes
- One or two dishes guests will remember, such as dum biryani or a live counter
- A balance of dry and gravy dishes
- At least one light option for children and elders
- Desserts that hold well through a long evening
4. Always do a tasting
Taste the actual dishes you are planning to serve, with the family members whose opinion matters most. It is the easiest way to avoid surprises on the day.
5. Ask these questions before paying an advance
- What exactly is included per plate — staff, crockery, counters, water?
- How many service staff will be at the venue?
- What time will setup be finished?
- What happens if the guest count goes up or down?
- What is the payment schedule and cancellation policy?
